“The Sea Deck” installation
“The Sea Deck” is the floating installation devised by AMDL CIRCLE and Michele De Lucchi for Azimut Yachts on the occasion of the Fuorisalone 2023. Stretched out in the middle of the Darsena waterfront, this walk offers visitors an unexpected way of experiencing the relationship with water, inspired by the stern space of Seadeck yachts: a terrace openable at sea level. Like a stage suspended in the void, where you can find the exposure to look for a new point of view and enjoy the water, the breeze and the sun. AMDL CIRCLE reinterprets these characteristics of the Seadeck in an interactive experience for the public of the Fuorisalone: a project that tells of the desire to go beyond the expected, the “dare to amaze” of Azimuth Yachts. The choice of the Darsena. The Darsena is a place to meet, for fun and sharing, but also the “sea” of Milan. The choice of the Darsena. The Darsena is a place to meet, for fun and sharing, but also the “sea” of Milan. Creating an installation here means seeking a new way of experiencing the urban space, offering an unexpected idea of relaxation and fun in the open air on the historic Naviglio.
Suspended on the water. You can walk along a ring with six sides composed of a floating structure and a floor surface made of granulated cork. You enter from the wharf through a pergola that recalls the architectural identity built up over the years by AMDL CIRCLE for Azimut Yachts. You reach the centre of the Darsena, satisfying that desire to “go beyond” the expected. During the evening the LED lighting also highlights the sign in the context and harkens back to the thrill of the lights of boats bobbing in the middle of the sea.
Stations that invite you to relax and discover. Along the route five stations open up, small projecting terraces that relate the stages of a journey through the state of the art of sustainable innovation in the nautical world: from new hybrid motors to the use of recycled materials and carbon to lighten hulls.
The sustainability of cork. In the Seadeck Series, teak – typical of yachts – is replaced with an alternative that is effective yet sustainable, cork. In line with this desire to reduce the environmental impact of products, for flooring “The Sea Deck” uses recycled ground corks from bottles, which will be transformed into an insulation material for architecture, displaying an attention towards circularity that is increasingly essential today.
