Earth Stations Many Hands

The Many Hands Earth Stations were prepared for the exhibition of the same name presented by AMDL CIRCLE at the Fuorisalone 2019. Inside them the space is large and generous. Space and light operate as separators of the functional areas, since there are few walls, which are light, mobile and flexible. In most cases the divisions are created with filters, textile meshes, double skins of fabric, wood, glass, metal, stone: fringes of various kinds that hang from the ceiling, separating the views without interrupting the space, which can be perceived to its full extent by looking at the floor. Contemporary architecture is built industrially and many parts are prefabricated: in this way the manual quality of the old factories has been totally lost; these were genuine heroic enterprises of a past in which building was done with the participation of many people, many minds, many hands, and buildings were created that still today challenge time with their walls and their centuries-old...

Contemporary architecture is built industrially and many parts are prefabricated: in this way the manual quality of the old factories has been totally lost; these were genuine heroic enterprises of a past in which building was done with the participation of many people, many minds, many hands, and buildings were created that still today challenge time with their walls and their centuries-old histories. It is in the continuous collaboration between minds and hands that the whole meaning of Many Hands lies, a concept with which we tackle the theme of craftsmanship using the criteria of Earth Stations, thus defining a series of monumental architectural visions devoted to man and his hands. These are buildings made by hand with materials and techniques typical of the five climatic regions into which the inhabited world is divided: tropical climate (Bamboo Station), polar (Clay Station), continental (Log Station), desert (Clay Station) and temperate (Terracotta Station). An Earth Station has been designed for each climate, conceived as a place to gather together, demonstrate and experiment with all the local hand-crafting techniques: from the construction of objects to the preparation of foods with local recipes.
