In the centre of Zuoz, in the Engadin valley, an old barn variously used in the past as a workshop, residence and warehouse, was renovated and converted into a private house. With its wood frame restored, the new front displays an inlay of frames, windows and infills that clearly indicate the building’s inner spatiality. Here a new framework of larchwood pillars and beams circumscribes the double-height main hall with two bedrooms leading off it on the first floor and one on the second. The lateral part, slightly recessed, houses the kitchen and services on the ground floor, and two bathrooms for the night zone on the upper level.
