The memorial is intended to be a stage with spaces for investigation, reflection, prayer and group debate, always in contact with the landscape and the nature of the location. The ring shape, transformed into a Möbius strip with two faces, has allowed the creation of an internal walkway allowing visitors to cross oscillating, constantly changing surfaces, in which texts and images are combined that tell of the events, the people and the significance of the Cold War, particularly underlining the role of Wisconsin.
The metal skin, which recalls the technology of the fuselage, reflects the surrounding environment, which changes with the seasons and the weather conditions, increasing the emotional and visual impact of the building and honouring Wisconsin’s agricultural heritage.
