Mooring by the moon installation
Mooring by the Moon is the installation designed by AMDL CIRCLE and Michele De Lucchi for Azimut Yachts at the Bagni Misteriosi of the Teatro Franco Parenti on the occasion of Milan Design Week 2024. Patterns and architectural structures transform into the scenic elements of a grand stage, on which an imaginative journey is represented, with the visitor as the protagonist. Upon entering the historic entrance of the Palazzina dei Bagni Misteriosi, the visitor is greeted by a suspended atmosphere where the elements of the rooms interact with the installations, creating a series of effects and continuously changing perspectives. Images, sounds, and scents evoke a dreamlike sea, discovered through the labyrinth of doors of the old changing rooms in the first room. Large shells made of shingles in innovative materials introduced by Azimut Yachts - discarded and regenerated fishing nets, recycled PET, and carbon - stand as theatrical backdrops in the second room.
Large shells made of shingles in innovative materials introduced by Azimut Yachts – discarded and regenerated fishing nets, recycled PET, and carbon – stand as theatrical backdrops in the second room. The theatrical illusion continues: stepping on board the Seadeck 6, one enters a space where furnishings and materials from the vessel are used to create the scenography of the interior environment.
The journey between indoors and outdoors culminates outside. From a terrace across the water, an unexpected view opens up in a dreamlike and suspended urban setting where the Seadeck 6 is moored and illuminated by moonlight. Mirrored shingles in polished galvanised steel form a large disk inspired by the moon, whose play of reflections emphasises the dynamic effect of the light pattern, evoking the lunar glow.
The solutions employed in the architectural backdrops of the installation and in the lunar disk involve the use of “shingles”: an element of a design language that characterises the research of AMDL CIRCLE’s studio, resulting in surfaces with patterns. Playing with lights and shadows, solids and voids, the shingles help create connections between environments, making them permeable and welcoming.
