The dome for “Rosso Maraviglia”
The project by AMDL CIRCLE and Michele De Lucchi is a red dome, in the sky of Milan, paying homage to Buccellati’s mastery. The Circle has conceived a site-specific installation for the headquarters of Buccellati in the heart of old Milan that stands out on the panoramic terrace of the rationalist tower designed by architect Pietro Portaluppi. A dome with an unexpected colour for Milan, red, which attracts the gazes of passers-by upwards and is intended to arouse a sense of wonder, like the faceted prisms of gemstones. The roof is inspired internally by the dome of the Pantheon with its characteristic lacunars, pyramidal coffers, arranged along three rows that progressively narrow upwards, generating depth and luminous vibrations that change constantly according to the angle of view. The dome structure is covered with three layers of red mesh. The rhythm of the woven threads gives shape to a filigree architecture, stitched together and linked into a textile pattern that is the...

The rhythm of the woven threads gives shape to a filigree architecture, stitched together and linked into a textile pattern that is the expression of hand crafting made in Italy, like the precious artefacts on display.
During the Fuorisalone the terrace will host a floral installation curated by landscape artist Lily Kwong, a green scenography for the Rosso Maraviglia collection coming about from the collaboration with the historic Venini glassworks. The red of Murano glasses will be amplified by the architectural structure and by the interplay of light and shade that filters from the mesh pattern.
The installation by AMDL CIRCLE celebrates the creativity and hand crafting mastery of Buccellati with a cupola with strong colours. Like a faceted jewel, the dome crowns a historic Milanese architecture, generating an unusual scenario and stimulating reflection on the priceless value of hand-made things.
