Urban Harbor
The Urban Harbor of Ludwigsburg is a simple, comfortable container designed by CIRCLE as a hybrid space for work, events and exhibitions. The symbiosis between industrial character, humanistic design and attention to detail creates a unique, modern atmosphere. The project is intended to be a way of responding to the speed of the contemporary world, which requires companies and people to be constantly flexible. Buildings designed to be unchangeable over time today seem obsolete, while architecture investigates new concepts of space with functions that can be continually transformed.
The aim of Urban Harbor is to provide businesses with spaces that are easy to move inside the various company areas but also in other urban contexts, to be fitted with new configurations every day. For this reason the containers are identified as the basic elements of the project, inside which to insert flexible furnishings. A group of containers structured around a piazza can create an autonomous system of commercial activities, restaurants, shops and entertainment. The solution is useful for revitalising the spaces of the major industries with low-budget investments and without heavy interventions to the structures of the building.
Urban Harbor is fitted with a floating “cloud” ceiling that has a double function: to conceal the crane that is necessary for moving the containers and to enhance the space with an artistic installation. The cloud is built of layers of fabric with asymmetrical, soft and organic forms, which descend in parallel to each other and have integrated spotlights to give accents of light. Coloured effects can easily be added with RGB Led technology.
