Upgrading of the Enel Plant in Priolo Gargallo

In the early years of the new millennium, the technological adaptation of Enel power stations – converted from of oil and/or coal combustion to methane – has involved the renovation of the image and an upgrading of the environmental impact of power plants. In the case of the plant located in the industrial district between Priolo Gargallo and Augusta, in the province of Syracuse, the planimetrical layout of the old establishment, built between the 1960s and ‘70s, has been radically transformed and the original fittings replaced with new production machinery. On the front of environmental attenuation and architectural decoration, translucent alveolar polycarbonate shells (Makrolon® multi UV), shaped to improve wind resistance, cover the two twin symmetrical heat recovery steam generators. Between the two shells, the two fume ducts are contained together in a single cylindrical volume. Applying the colour philosophy specially developed for plants of this type, the chimney is...

Applying the colour philosophy specially developed for plants of this type, the chimney is painted a delicate, evanescent blue-grey colour, the steam generator an intense yellow and the turbogas building burnt red.
