With the project for the restructuring and enlargement of the historic building that is the headquarters of Telecom in Milan, AMDL intended to render the image of high technological sophistication of a building that concealed its authentic soul behind a humble appearance of anonymous sobriety. Located in the very central Piazza Affari, alongside the more famous and monumental Stock Exchange building, the Telecom executive office building is organised as a rational machine over 10 storeys, of which two below ground and the three highest ones set back on terracing. The project expresses the desire to favour advanced working modes and the extensive use of technology, at the same time retaining a serene and welcoming environment. Hence the choice of glass surfaces to achieve the maximum illumination, to attenuate the claustrophobia of the corridors and to also guarantee transparency while retaining the necessary confidentiality. The spacious entrance is lined with natural materials, marble and wood, and is characterised by large glazed surfaces and plasma screens on the walls. The last floor presents itself as a hanging garden with an extraordinary panoramic view of the city; here the rooms, to be used for meetings and reception activities, look out onto an informal veranda with roof for shade and with walls openable onto the long balcony.
