“DoorScape – The Space beyond the Threshold” exhibition

The layout design of the exhibition "DoorScape: The Space Beyond the Threshold" has been conceived with the intention of respecting the unique identity of the location that hosts it: the Carlo Scarpa area of Palazzo Querini Stampalia, which is distinguished for its refined formal and material solutions, such as the concrete panels of the floors, the travertine stone slabs of the walls and the attractive light vibrations created by the reflections on the water. The exhibition is devoted to the first ten projects selected by the Jury of the DoorScape competition, organized by Oikos and the Fondazione Querini Stampalia, to enhance the entrance space and emphasize how this is an integral part of the architecture. Along the exhibition route, the story of these projects is told through wooden conceptual models created by artist and designer Matteo Diciommo, specially made for the occasion. The layout design of the exhibition “DoorScape: The Space Beyond the Threshold” has been conceived with the intention of respecting the unique identity of the location that hosts it: the Carlo Scarpa area of Palazzo Querini Stampalia, which is distinguished for its refined formal and material solutions, such as the concrete panels of the floors, the travertine stone slabs of the walls and the attractive light vibrations created by the reflections on the water.
To display them, two different formats have been used, both realized using black laminated iron. In the centre of the first room there is a podium devoted entirely to the model of the winner, “The Portal” by Setion Branko. In the adjacent room, a long table accommodates the other nine models. Completing the layout design are two benches and the information totems.

The overall effect is configured like a musical score that speaks of harmony, cohesion and the encounter between art, design and architecture. All the elements of the layout have been obtained from a single slim plate, precision-cut with a laser. The interlocking assembly of the modules obtained in this way creates a highly structured composition of lines and angles that follows the vistas of the flooring, maintaining a continuity with the geometries of the location. The blue striations of the iron, deriving from the lamination process, bring out the material quality of the wooden models, creating an interesting contrast between materials and cold and warm tones.
