“Tree of Lemons” installation

Albero di limoni illuminates Piazza della Magione in Palermo during the “Summer Kals'Art 2005” festival, as part of the "Luci d’Autore" event at the Kalsa, one of the oldest districts of Palermo. The installation, conceived by AMDL, has been built by the city’s artisans of light. The lemon has been chosen as a plant representing Palermo because, in the collective imagination, it is the most Mediterranean of trees, associated with the idea of the sun, the sea, refreshment from heat. It is a special tree on account of its proportions and its colours: it has shiny, well designed leaves, regular and elegant, which are combined in a magical equilibrium with the vital yellow of the fruit.  Albero di limoni also represents the desire to “repopulate” cities with greenery, to define a strong symbol located at the centre of a square for a striking, joyous narration, which encourages cities of cement to humanise and welcome...
